BudGun
This spuds for you... and you and you and you...

I was bored about a week ago and set out to build this. It was a really bad decision because it delayed the serious pneumatic project I'm working on at the moment, and cut into my funds, but oh well.

SPECIFICATIONS
  • Dr. Pepper bottle air chamber
  • Pneumatically actuated sprinkler valve
  • 1/2" x 36" type M copper barrel
Here it is in the only clean corner of the room.

See? It's just a Dr. Pepper bottle...

I don't have any film at the moment. I've done a few test shots at relatively low pressure, but the air regulator on our air compressor (a 160 PSI model) is not working at the moment so there's no way to accurately fill the launcher to a safe working pressure. After that's fixed, I'll post some video.

EDIT: Recorded some quick video shooting a bottle of water. Not much, but oh well...

Here lies a dead YouTube video :(

Why put a copper barrel on it? when you could have put a PVC one for a total of about 2$ :D that would be one way to save money.

Becuase copper looks cooler? :)

Also, I like the ID of 1/2" type M copper. It's a perfect fit for marbles, and other things...

Ah you used your bottle adapter thing. :D
Sprinkler valve pilot looks neat.

Do you see vapor forming in the chamber when you fire it?

I've only shot it with the chamber sleeve off a handful of times, but I see it sometimes when it's sunny out.

I've got respect for bottle chambers, thats how I started out in pneumatics, plus they are cheap as chips to replace!

Do you have deposit bottles (PET) where you live? Where I live nearly all drinks are in these bottles, designed for multiple use out of pretty thick plastic. Once I pushed one to over 200psi without deforming itself (only for testing).

You should add a pvc chamber so you can pressurize to higher pressures without blowing yourself up.

hes quite an experienced spudder so i think he is not foolish enough to take the pressure too high and he probably already knows that its stupid to take one near or over 100 psi. plus this isnt a serious cannon its just something he felt the urge to create.

As Mateo said, I didn't take this cannon past around 70-80 PSI. I've since scrapped it, though, so you don't have to worry too much...

Easy answer to that one. Cheap, simple to get hold of, ready made.

It's not good as far as durability or strength of course, but it is easy.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

    snrk!

Seriously though, when stuck for adequate supply soda bottles make more than adequate pressure chambers.
