One Gorgeous Sniper

I think you guys are gonna like this. This is a bolt-action pneumatic propane powered airsoft sniper I've been working on for a while. It features an adjustable hop-up device, mad bull airsoft barrel, modded sprinkler valve, pressure regulator, spring-fed 14 rd. capacity magazine that snaps into place like a real magazine should, and my favorite part about the gun- the unique breech-loading system. Being built strictly with hand tools except for a power drill, blood, sweat and tears were truly put into this project. Hardest part by far was building the outside body/stock; extremely time consuming. I have done some testing and I don't have a chronograph but it's pretty fast. For those of you who are familiar with the coke can test for airsoft guns http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/a ... ulletID=34, this was able to penetrate the top central of the can so it doesn't mess around. It also breaks glass beer bottles from about 30 feet away but I didn't test it from further yet. Damage pics to come someday if you want them. Alright first comment.

I was actually planning on for some time now doing the same exact thign you did except instead of propane I would have a fill button with co2 up in the front of the gun by the main trigger.

Mine would also use regular airsoft magazines and an aftermarket airsoft hopup (m14). I was gonna have the same m82 style muzzle break. So mad props to you.

Really great build you have going here.. Now it just needs an adjustable cheek piece.

Davidvaini: I'm not sure if you thought that i have just a regular airsoft magazine, but anyways, I made that magazine from scratch out of 1/4" sheet pvc to work with my loading mechanism. Also, this gun was originally designed to take CO2 from a tire inflator at the rear of the gun and the fill lever was right where I layed my cheekbone so I could just push down my face against it to fill for the next shot, but I found that I was a little annoyed by replacing the 12grams so often so I just switched my plumbing out to propane and now it just fills automatically, all I do is pull the bolt action back and forward and shoot again and again, with waaaaaaay more shots per can. Hop-up works so awesome! I love how it also works as an anti-roll so the bb's don't roll out of the muzzle, I can shoot this gun at all angles. Haven't tested max effective range yet because I've been limited to shooting along the outside of my house right now, but so far it's been at least 80 feet (which puts marks in my wood fence what looks to be the penetration of about 1/4 of a bb). Oh ya also I made the muzzle brake out of 1/8" sheet pvc for the top and bottom (heat-curved by hand!) peices , and 1/4" sheet pvc for all four sides for more strength.

inonickname: I have the reg. set to 140 psi right now, but if I want to I can take off the faceplate bolts of the stock and adjust it again, but 140 is about max setting on that thing. The propane vapor pressure can only get to 140 when the weather is warm anyways, which it is fairly often here anyways so that's good. Still shoots hard even in the 80-100 psi range.

Psycix: Thanks, if you look at the hopup, it adjusts with the screw on the end closest to the actual rubber triangular bumper peice. The strip of metal I used is bowed up so if I let up on the set screw then the bumper will rise up more out of the barrel giving lighter hop, and vise-versa if I turn the screw down more.

Looks great, only comment i have is that perhaps you should take another step towards high velocities and pressures and use a piston valve(this baby woudl look sgreat woth a co-ax barrel sealer, also its less space consuming ergo you don't need suck a large "hull" and its easyer/faster/cheeper to build). Oh and how about you give this an urban camo look, the vid that explains how to make that quickly and easyly with widely available tools and colors.

I like the solid colors better though, it was based off of the sniper rifle in halo 1, and adapted a few features from the halo 3 sniper rifle too. And I mulled around with different valve ideas but it was pretty much between this and a QEV and I had trouble finding a proper QEV so I went with a sprinkler. A coaxial setup would have been difficult to have while incorporating the magazine in the position that I wanted it so, while it may still be possible to have both, I just decided on my design for ease of building, eventhough it still took me many months. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Yes, damage pics soon to come when it stops raining. Also, I was thinking this was a good project to do to inspire myself and others to make more snipers with the same level and/or more detail, but with more power for other long-distance/accurate projectiles, maybe if I can find some cheap way of making sabot-discarding fin-stabilized ammo or something. I think if I made another one I'd put a piston valve like the one I designed in theory (pictured below) in it also. And have a more powerful air source, like Paintball CO2, but those setups are so expensive... I don't know. This gun wasn't supposed to be a power beast anyways because it is just for airsoft, so plinking and skirmishes only- has to be somewhat people friendly from a distance. I feel it's perfect for what it was designed for.

I'm thinking I could alter my failed Pump Action QEV gun and make one of these,I have all the parts now apart from making that loader and magazine which looks pretty tricky to construct!?(especially the MAG)..

EDIT: don't you lose air with that feeder? or does that little pop up thingee after the ramp seal the bb entry hole properly?, its one problem ive allways had trying to get a Bolt Action or Semi working right......

The button doesn't really seal the hole, the white rounded part does, I grease it, and it gets pushed up snug against the barrel from when the magazine gets pushed up and locked into place. It's a snug fit, but not so snug that it's hard to pull and push the bolt back and forth. It's good enough not to leak air. Ya the magazine took a while, if you make one, be careful to make it so the bb's don't fly out from the spring when you load the mag up. You kind of have to have a lip for the top bb to sit on so it doesn't go forward and start a chain reaction where all the bb's fly out. Just look at a springer airsoft pistol magazine, that's where I got my ideas from. Damage pics soon to come.
