Yeah, so, what about silencing a spudgun? That's why this topic was made, so why is it not being discussed. I think Larda would be the only one who would need to worry about the shock wave or whatever from a sonic round, oh, and killjoy.

I don't think we should discuss silencing anything other than a spudgun in this thread, or on this site for that matter. I don't think it should be locked because it has the potential to be a good topic, but it should stay ON TOPIC.

I can't remember which way it goes ATM, but one is considerably more powerful than the other, and if used in a rifle intended for the lower-power round, can cause a lot of damage and possibly failure of the breech and firing mechanism.
The 7.62 casing is thicker, but the .308 is generally loaded to a higher pressure (62,000 psi max instead of 50,000 psi).

It's also worth reading this article which talks about compatibility issues.
On another note, I finally found an article on a suppressor's effects on accuracy, and I have to admit that I was wrong on that count.
This is partly due to the reduction of the muzzle blast, which can destabilise the projectile - recoil is also reduced, but for single shot, the effects of this are indirect.
An important factor in the reduction of noise and recoil is that it reduces the likelihood of a shooter "flinching" (that being tensing under the expectation of the noise and kick), which is not good for accuracy.

However, as hubb reminds us, we should get back to the original topic.

Before I disappear - hubb, there are more supersonic hybrids than just the HyGaC20 and FEAR.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Oh, I know. Those were just the ones that popped in my head. Did I mention Larda's hybrid  JK

A simple search will yield plenty of threads on the subject, be it legality, theory, construction etc.

I look upon it know and find my behavour very un becoming. Sorry boys.

Has anyone tried buildin the scilencer/ supressor into the barrel?
Have seen it dont a few times with great succes. and you dont have a big buldge at the end witch would promote the fact that it has one?

technically speaking, if your spudgun is considered an acutal firearm by your local law then putting a silencer on it would be against the law. But there most of the time arnt any laws saying that you cant have a silencer on other things.

For example, having a silencer in your computer is fine, having a silencer on your heating unit is fine.

So if your spudgun isnt considered a firearm by local law then I would say it would be fine.

my 2 cents.

A very valid point. that might get you out of strife over in the states.

However over here they are classed as an A class fire arm. the defanition of is. Any artical that uses a, compressed gass, b, venting of exaust, c, energy from a copressed spring. to fire and or launch a projectile. if you muzzel diamiter exceeds 15mm it is then classed as a cannon. yes the humble spud gun is thrown in with howitzers?????
The sorta BULLS**T we aussies have to put up with.

I built a short removable can for my cannon. The construction will be easy to figure out from the pics. The funny things is that because I haven't gotten around to packing it with steel wool yet it acts like a bass cannon. It actually makes the cannon louder and gives it an almost rifle like crack.

Depends, what are you trying to silence, what materials do you have a available, what's your budget?

Many people are willing to help here, but you need to be more specific with your queries - and as Carl "small chamber, big damage" Man pointed out, there already is a lot of information on the forum that can be found using the Image Search feature ;)

I made a can for an airsoft springer out of a bit pen and a crayola marker once. It did a good job of quieting it down with no filler. It all really depends on a ton of variables to tell how good it will work.

And it isn't uncommon for a fake airsoft can to amplify the noise from an airsoft gun, either.
