before you decide to choose marbles make sure that the brand that you can buy fits in the barrell with no problems.... in some of the packs I bought only 40 - 60% can be used...the rest was just to big...
I wasn't quite aware of that at the very beginning as only several of them per pack were oversized but now it's simply anoying...
I think I'll switch to different caliber
and trust me... semis eat a lot of ammo so sorting out ammo is going to be a nightmare

Is there anyway to use the "lost" air coming out of the pop-off? Could it be used for instance to cycle a spring loaded bolt?
AND If you want to sort marbles make a sorting tray. You'll just need a bit of plywood with holes drilled in to the same size as your barrel, four edges round it and then pour the marbles in and gentle shake the tray, the one's the drop through are good then one's that don't you do somethin else with.

That would have a negative influence on the valve's opening time.SPG wrote:Is there anyway to use the "lost" air coming out of the pop-off? Could it be used for instance to cycle a spring loaded bolt?

Hmm you guys are right, the marble problem isnt that much of an issue with a single shot gun. But semi auto will be a PITA. Also, marbles tend to break while metal bb's can be picked up by a magnet and reused.
I think I'll go for the bb's first, and later on try marbles.
Thanks for your opinions and advice.
For sure, but how much of one? If it only dropped the ROF a small amount but gave you a working bolt, it'd be worth it.psycix wrote:That would have a negative influence on the valve's opening time.

My next design may have the piston connected to the bolt, so its valve and loading mech. in one.
When I DO build a BFWB for marbles, I will indeed need to build a sorter. Tolerances would be tight though.
Some marbles fit in one barrel but not in the other. Difference no more then 1/10th mm.

How about making some batches of lead slugs? Make up a mould up out of two thick strips of aluminium so you can do say 5-10 in each cast. Old car batteries are an easy source of lead, and people are always getting rid of them. It is a bit of work to set up, but you would get some nice dense uniform projectiles

@psycix
(hint hint it's a waste of time)
something tells me that the easest way to overcome this problem is to buy a larger barrel (ID of 16.05 - 16.1)Some marbles fit in one barrel but not in the other. Difference no more then 1/10th mm.
if he kept 10 imigrants in his basement and forced tham to cast slugs for him that would be a pretty good idea...How about making some batches of lead slugs

Besides the ID being nice for marbles, another great thing of this particular pipe is that it can be threaded with 1/2" BSP, thus directly screwing into my QEV.

I dont think my parents would allow that, but I'll keep it in mind.

now this is both inspiring, disturbing and beautiful.
Inspiring; since I´ve thought of full auto guns myself, and this gives me some good ideas.
disturbing; since it´s so well performed and your Dutch ( )
beautiful; Well, any true spud gunner can identify the beauty in this one!
Great job.
Now to my improvements thoughts. Getting yourself a good body/stock to rest against your shoulder would greatly increase the (obviously nice) kick-back experience from the full auto-cycles. And put a lot to the esthetically.
again; nice job!
