Fair point, I was just doubting my building skills there.
I'm still having the money issue. If I raise it to $80, then people will just buy the Mauler. Any less, my £50 price tag will have to be dropped.

If I sold it for £50 then I would make 50% profit, not 200%. Anyway, I cannot increase the price over time, doesn't work that way.

Never was sure on the whole percentile things what im saying is you cannot expect to double your money after a saleif you build it for 50$ sell it for $70. An every price increses over time, it DOES work that wayJogumpie wrote:If I sold it for £50 then I would make 50% profit, not 200%. Ok, I'll take your advice. I'll sell them for $50 US then, and £40 UK.
You definately need to set a price in sterling, and then convert it to dollars. Honestly, I don't thing selling to the US is a realistic goal because of the shipping costs. I just ran it through the UPS site and it says £50 to IL, which seems a bit steep, but you should expect to pay at least £25 for a ~1kg 20x15x10cm package.
I would start selling in the UK. Sort yourself out at home first without having to manage the complications of shipping abroad (how do you deal with a lost item?).
When everyone in the UK start posting rave reviews of the valve, and you drum up some demand in the US, then start sending them overseas.
Until then, don't forget there is a good market in france and holland, whose shipping will be less expensive, and have a strong currency so won't have a problem paying the appropriate amount.

For the US market, it may be worth looking into a distributer who can take a bulk shipment of say 50-100 units and sell them for you on commission. Drop ShureShot a line and see if they would be interested. If they build one, shipping can be eliminated and selling rights to a copyright may be in order. Just some thoughts.Biopyro wrote:You definately need to set a price in sterling, and then convert it to dollars. I highly doubt they will rave about it. But who knows... mabye it will be a success? OK. £54.99 is my new price, but if you all hate it i'll change it.

I just read your post on the UK forum and I have to say that was a pretty cold reception you got. I understand where they are coming from, but that was almost unnecessary.
This is a beautiful valve, and is built to the highest standard and they really blew you off. Maybe you should a different approach, because without that forum you won't get very much advertisement in Europe.

Just showing up with something for sale may have been the problem. Way too many forums are dumping grounds for advertising. They don't want it no way no how. I don't really blame them.thedeathofall wrote:I just read your post on the UK forum and I have to say that was a pretty cold reception you got. Cornishtiger (the owner) is a little grumpy these days. The forum was very (very) quiet this winter, so just turning up and trying to sell something instead of stirring some conversation maybe irked him.
Also, he runs a spudding shop, which essentially you're competing with, but he mostly can't be bothered to run it. It seems like when you buy something (inevitably overpriced), he treats it as a chore to pack and send it.
It's starting to liven up a bit for the summer now though, so the post is there, and when people visit from google and want to build one, they should see it.

I doubt Cornishtiger would allow me to advertise there, and I wasn't asking people to buy it, just showing it to them, and saying I might sell it. That is a little different to "buy my stuff".
I am a little confused.
I am not even a little grumpy!
I dont run a spudgun shop I got some stuff together to help people out. I priced everything at lower prices than it was available at the time and I have never had any feed back to say its too expensive.
I ship every order out as soon as possible.
It may be that you didnt feel you were selling Jog but thats how it looked you didnt post anything else, no-one has heard of you, as far as we can see you have never built a complete launcher and to cap it all you have never been back.
If I was asked I would have said you were welcome to advertise and I would have helped as much as I could.
If we destroy the UK forum by slagging it off and never actually joining in you will only have your American friends and while they are great guys and build great launchers they are never going to invite you round for coffee.
