I bet he told you to tin the inside of the fittings, didn't he?

It's amazing that about 80% of plumbers actually think this helps the joint...

no, you first flux the fittings, slip them together, wipe excess, heat pipe sufficiently, then touch solder to the pipe , than cool with more flux, than wipe.

I was implying that 80% of plumbers are stupid...

Ha ha, not really. That was kind of exxagerated. It's kind of a "n00b" mistake in the plumbing world...

SpudStuff, don't steal saladtosser's picture... Get your own...

Why do you cool the joint with more flux? I thought that was just used to get the soldier to wick into the joint.

You forgot to mention to clean the pipe, it's very important to clean the pipe, then flux, then solder. A good tip is to make a hook in the solder to make working with it easier. To make it pretty get more flux on it when it's still hot and wipe it off.

I prefer brazing because it's a quicker and stronger seal, especially when dealing with gas when copper is meant for water. I'm just paranoid, but my oxyacetylene torch gets it done probably quicker than soldering.

And hey guys, first post.

yea, i forgot you need to get a metal brush to clean the insides of the fittings, and one of those fluffy sandpaper/brillowish pad things to clean and smooth the pipe.
