I posted pics in the Pneumatic Forum a couple of months ago while I was preparing to make a video. The cannon incurred a mechanical problem soon after posting the pics so, I removed them. I've spent the past month making design changes throughout and testing. These pics are of the final (almost) design.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Barrel = 1.251id x 1.75od x 72"
Ammunition = 1.250 Ball Bearing
Semi-auto
Operating Pressure = 1,000psi
Pressure system = Continuous fill.
Chamber / Barrel = 1:1
Trigger Mechanism = Pneumatic actuated ball valve, 0.630 id

Because of the minor malfunction I went into self-imposed exile! I used that time to redesign the things that I found offensive.Demon wrote:(I wondered why it suddendly disapered ... )

why is it limited to 60rpm? due to flow requirements or because of its loading mechanism?

The rof is governed by several of things. As I recall, a 1.250 bearing weighs about 2045 grains. That's a lot of mass to move around quickly.POLAND_SPUD wrote:why is it limited to 60rpm? due to flow requirements or because of its loading mechanism?

Valid point... I must ask for some velocity specs of this. Also, how do you fill the chamber? I assume, you have a scuba or HPA pump at the shop in order to reach 1000 psi per shot.Each operation has to run reliably and not crowd the next......it's all a matter of time. 60 rounds equates to about 17.5 lbs of steel down range in 1 minute. How much faster do you think it should run?

No velocity specs at this time but, coming soon.thedeathofall wrote: Also, how do you fill the chamber? I assume, you have a scuba or HPA pump at the shop in order to reach 1000 psi per shot.
I have several size "K" cylinders of nitrogen. When the cylinders are full they contain 2500 psi (200 ft^3+). I don't have a way to refill them with hpa. When the pressure drops to low, I exchange them for full cylinder. Needless to say....rapid fire can quickly empty a type "K" cylinder.

but as I understand the loading mechanism and the main valve operate independently, right ? so while the loading mech loads ammo the gun can be filled at the same time... so the question is 'what takes more time ? filling or loading the next round
what is this http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/files/p ... 13_966.jpg ?
uhmm it looks like an air cylinder but it seems it's attached to some sort of a lever... is it an air operated ball valve ?[/quote]
I realize that increasing the ROF is not exactly the most practical thing you one can do with a gun like this... though I would still like to know what is the most limiting factor hereit's all a matter of time. 60 rounds equates to about 17.5 lbs of steel down range in 1 minute. How much faster do you think it should run
