I'm thinking that the deadline should not be extended unless someone is actively building and needs the extension. An extension with nobody building is pointless.

That said, if there is a delay in delivery of a high speed camera or manometer, those are acceptable as these are works in progress for the contest.

I can understand the need to set aside a good deal of time for school, but it typically won't consume one's life. The original BSOV contest was held in January '08, just as most of the younger members were heading back to school, and that contest still had more entries within the first few days than this one has had in the month it's been running.

I'm currently pursuing Engineering, and I can tell you that the program I'm in involves a lot more work than any high school course and most University programs, yet I still have plenty of time for spudding. I understand that everyone's situation is different, but I wouldn't really blame the lack of entries entirely on school. I really doubt the outcome would be much different if I had posted this thread in June or July.

To the people who have entered or are working on entries, thanks, it's much appreciated.

Currently trying to work on an entry. I have not touched anything related to spudding for 2 weeks, save for a few minutes last night during chat. I do intend to enter, and support a deadline extension. The 4 AP classes are actually consuming my life.

Had you posted the contest during the summer, my entry would already be in.

I think I'm probably going to extend the deadline, as there seems to be a decent number of people working on long term contest entries that may not be ready by the end of this month. An additional 2 weeks would likely be sufficient, and would bump the overall duration up to 2 months. Alternatively, the end of November could work as well. Perhaps I'll start a separate poll to gather input on the matter.

That's a good idea, just start a new thread and the disscussion of extension can follow it so this thread can be for entries and not be cluttered up....

If the deadline is extended by one month, to the end of November, can I (and Technician1002) reserve the right to withdraw our previous entries and submit new ones? I doubt I would, but there is always the chance I come across a better idea since my current video was thought up, filmed and edited in a single day.

Holy *hit Crowley. That was really impressive. Damn, I watched it like 3 times in a row and then realized I will never attempt to top it. Doing so would ensure a stringent failure process.

You can't even give a moderate pressure paintball gun a run for its money?
Sure, you may not be able to shoot split screen slow motion montages, but the actual impact comes into it - it's not difficult to do something more destructive.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Yup, my 1337 editing skills mask the relatively average impact. I wish I had a watermelon and room to use a larger cannon, but at the time it wasn't possible. If I could change one thing in the video, it would be the target. A watermelon being impacted by a potato is just a thousand times more pleasing to watch.

edit: BTW, thanks for the compliments MoonBogg :)

Someone a while back had a youtube video of an apple hitting 2 watermelons in a row with high speed camera. The first watermelon exploded in a wonderful display. The second was untouched. All the KE was used in the first impact.

I still think I don't want to use a watermelon as a shield against a high power spudgun.

I doubt a paintball will damage the second pineapple.

That's pretty cool but i'm pretty sure you guys would be able to get through multiple targets with your high powered cannons. Frozen projectile but ya the slow mow of multiple pineapples exploding would be pretty awesome looking.
