As far as damage to the projectile, this is damage after punching holes in stuff. The damage is from remaining KE after going through the crate.

wow that's actually pretty impressive
unlike most of your gayish & weak stuff in 1mm calibre that can't kill a fly (yes that's including the incredible farting machine (version #87.2.6b) )

Yeah, that's "wasted" KE, either from impact with the targets or the backstop. But my point remains, it doesn't actually take that much energy to deform a 12g like that, so it may be deceptive.Technician1002 wrote:As far as damage to the projectile, this is damage after punching holes in stuff.

That's unfair, I could have made the barrel 6 feet long and the chamber 10 times bigger but I have neighbours to think about for what it is it packs quite a punch.Ragnarok wrote:Hmm... this doesn't actually seem to be indicative of all that much energy. I've shot air rifles at empty CO2 cartridges before, and they usually look like that after just a shot or two.
Speaking of which, I had a morning of chrony testing planned but bloody typical, my last ignitor gives out! I did manage one chrony shot though, at 10x with a 30 gram capsule, 278 feet per second - that works out at 79 ft/lbs (slightly better than your air rifles eh Rag ) which is 15 ft/lbs more than the maximum my HPA coaxial managed with the same projectile.
Here's the video of the shot at 420 frames per second:

My previous tests with piezo ignition suggests that I can happily take this to 16x so the performance potential is even greater, now to find a bloody cigarette lighter!
Edit: unbelievable, all the shops I went to only had the flint type lighters :-/ in the meantime, gave it a go as a burst disk pneumatic fitted with 3 layers of photo paper disk (one layer bursts at around 160 psi) and hooked up to an 800 psi supply, it was surprisingly quieter than the hybrid and less powerful than a 10x shot, piercing the power supply case but not nearly as much as the hybrid.

To take a break from fiddling with poncy little cartridges, had a go with the 0.75" hybrid at 12x

Here it is at 8x vs a used smoke grenade, just 220 fps but still quite impressive:

Looks more impressive (and seems to have hit quite a solid square edge). Was that just one shot, or the result of several?jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Is that enough damage for monsieur Ragnarok

Just one shot, it basically hit the centreline on the truck's bonnet hence the damage.Ragnarok wrote:Looks more impressive (and seems to have hit quite a solid square edge). Was that just one shot, or the result of several?

This is great! I like those creations of yours. Eventhough I don't build alot anymore due to other activities it is now tempting to make a basic hybrid..

Thanks this was just a test rig but it's such fun I was thinking of re-making it "properly", perhaps in the configuration I was planning for my previous HPA 0.75" prototype:

This is with a 2 foot barrel, considering the tiny chamber volume I'm sure it could be made more powerful with a bigger chamber but it's already deafening as it is. I wish I had the space to make an AMR type hybrid that would end up looking something like this but oh, the curse of working within an urban environmentJDP12 wrote:with a longer barrel in a carbine configuration or such would probably boost ft/lbs alot.

Actually, a hybrid version of the VSSK "Vychlop" would be one heck of a project...POLAND_SPUD wrote:You can always make a large silencer for it.
