On a similar note, I have to say that I find American news programmes often have a script that is written and read like the news isn't exciting enough on its own and needed pepping up. This usually means lots of onomatopoeia, poetic phrasing, a sprinkling of hyperbole, then reading it at pace with excessive intonation (particularly if the word "Emergency" is used).MrCrowley wrote:The commentators don't have as annoying voices either.
It's audible in other programs too, for example I much prefer the British narration to something like Mythbusters to the US version, definitely sounds less patronising and the puns are more palatableRagnarok wrote:On a similar note, I have to say that I find American news programmes often have a script that is written and read like the news isn't exciting enough on its own and needed pepping up.

Indeed, but I find the contrast most stark in news programmes.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:It's audible in other programs too
How DARE you post a spudgun related post in this thread !!!inonickname wrote:I bored the *cough cough* gas tube for the light gas gun today. It's not a traditional light gas gun by the way; it uses a shockwave to compress the hydrogen and thus needs no piston or burst disk. This is the chamber that will hold the hydrogen gas prior to firing. The [200x oxy-hydrogen mix ] is contained in a chamber with the same OD, but an ID of less than 6mm. It cannot be built heavily enough. It is likely this chamber will fail eventually.
Final bore will be 2-4mm, barrels interchangeable. Muzzle velocity; high. If you want a proper description of how it works, PM me.
Find me a spudgun that makes a million PSI shockwave travelling at 60000m/s and I'll happily move it to a spudgun related threadSelador wrote:How DARE you post a spudgun related post in this thread !!!inonickname wrote:I bored the *cough cough* gas tube for the light gas gun today. There are some excellent CGI scenes in history channel documentaries like "Dogfights" or "Greatest Tank Battles" (most episodes can be found on youtube) which are unfortunately let down by overly dramatic narration as well as the sheer focus on American (and sometimes Israeli) military victories, no objections to what is after all a US show however being so selective it does seem more like propaganda than history.velocity3x wrote:I find most everything delivered by the "Electronic Box of Truth" to be annoying... with the exception of the History Channel. I prefer British narration of WWII history films as they provide a strictly factual narration without adding any undue emotion and drama.
