See, dull knives are manly becoause when you cut yourself with them you act tough.

I should clean up my L1A1/FN FAL/SLR bayonet and post it, good you carry for when you're concerned about vicious critters, useless for hunting/skinning/gutting.

I only carry my little $30 Excaliber around now, I used to be big on knives untill I found firearms and spudguns.

Hey, Jake, what do you think of 8Cr13MoV? I bought another Kershaw, found one with a stronger blade design than the Ken Onion Leek I complained about early in this thread. The Leek also had the annoying design flaw that the blade would contact the spine and gradually roll the edge...

Anyway, the frame of my Gerber EX-Out Skeleton started to separate below the lockback, so I got myself and all-steel Kershaw VaporII about a year ago. The thing is an awesome knife. All-steel, oxide-coated, nice heavy frame-lock, strong spring-steel clip, open spine so crap doesn't build up. No spring assist, but it's actually easier to open with my thumb than the assisted Leek was.
Plus, the blade is still very sharp after almost a year of moderate usage. I can still shave with it, but it's catching a little, now. It'll get it's first re-sharpening this weekend.

I doubt this is what anyone had in mind, but, I got a set of Chroma 301 kitchen knives that are awesome. Sharp enough to shave with (saying something, I go through 3 or 4 razors some weeks).

Dalton, im sorry but this time i dont find any information of 8Cr13MoV, i was only enable to find some information from those forums i dont even trust. So, we have to start analysing from the name of the steel.

So, we see from the name, it has Cgromium and Vanadium, seems that it has some Mo in it. We know, its a chinese blade steel, people says its better than 440c. Only thin annoying is i dont know the Carbon content in it. It tells everything. Seems like i need to search more.

For now, looks like its useable steel. Its in the between of 440c and s30v.

I sharpened a 8Cr13MoV kershaw nerve yesterday. It stays sharp pretty well, altough less than my Blur.
It was pretty easy to sharpen, but it formed a burr during sharpening wich I had to remove. After some stropping it was plenty sharp.

I think it is a pretty good steel, but I like my 14c28n more.

yeah, every good steal gets a burr when you sharpen it, thats why why i polish my knifes first with rough polish and then to the mirror shine.

Spyderco says that 8Cr13MoV is high carbon stainless steel, never trust text like that. never. Many companies advertise that theyr blades are made from high carbon steel, and the steel is really like 0.5-0.6%. Thats mid carbon steel. Carbon is everything in blade. And carbon steels come always better when they are hot forged by hand. When steel has 1-2% carbon, ill say its very good bladesteel. Although the 2% steel needs low carbon steel outer core to be strong and flexible.

Ill start tomorrow making myself a knife from 5160 springsteel, its going to be about 10cm long, 1-1.5cm wide and 2-3mm thik, 52-56hrc hardning to get it flexible. Im thinking about 7-10mm think bronze bolsters, handle from stacked cd´s and double shief from reindeer horn and barked reindeer leather. Its like modern and old together

hey, thought i would post a couple of my knives i just made, they need a but of sharpening and buffing but i thought wile there was some ok light i would get some photos, the fixed blade is 5cm long from point to end of handle with a wooden sheath and the folding knife it 4cm and 7cm with the blade is out and a burl handle, both blades are stainless steal from an old ruler, what you guys think?

like on the back and front of blade? well the one with the sheath has been sharpened in the curve and at the front but just on that one, why, is that bad?
