That does not matter one iota. If you're shooting at a target in which riccochets are possible, and there's things which could be hit by said riccochets (ie, people!) then it's your responsibility to not shoot the gun!

You can't control physics, but you can choose the circumstances under which you shoot things. If riccochets are a problem, shoot inside a shed or out in a field somewhere. Taking out an eye with a stray projectile has lifelong consequences on the victim... Think, before you do something stupid.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

Yes, I take all the blame for that 911 call by a neighbour.

But what I don't understant is that I never saw that neighbour, even tough the target was clear 30 meters from all side with nobody in sight.

And I saw somebody having fun digging up all the 50+ shots in the sand :D

The charges were dropped, as the police was on my side

They just estimated that the gun would not be able to shoot higher then the limit by eye. But before they confiscated, (I knew police was in the entry while I was in my shower at the 3rd and I got out of out of it with shampoo still in my hair) it, I made it impossible to shoot anything, and added duct tape at some random places to make it gettho (no doubt otherwise they woul've had taken it more serious with the look it had).

So no problem aside an angry mother and 200 $ + more then 60 hours down the drain. I maybe be not able to do anything that launches anything as soon as I haven't left the house

So yeah, stoopidity

You can't be held responsible for the fact that your neighbour is a cunt.

If you knew this however, you should have made an effort to make sure your testing is not visible and audible in such a manner that it can be reported to the authorities. Law enforcement is not omnipresent and more often than not, they only show up if someone complains.

Not to be a dick, but I told you -> you can't get in trouble if no one knows it exists
Did he do something to advertise it beyond Spudfiles and YouTube?
I suggested making the gun as silent as possible - maybe if it had been a little bit less loud the neighbour wouldn't have known he had a gun

There is a separate thread dealing with legality of the gun. Even though his gun was legal (well at least that's what they concluded in that thread) it didn't matter.

Well, the silenced part about the gun was perfect ... The neighbours heard none of the shots.

I've done my fair of dumb things in town. Fired a cannon (cannon cannon) which was audible...several blocks away at the police station. Never had any trouble for any of it. Getting along with your neighbors and helping them to understand goes a long way. I only really bow shoot now, which is fairly quiet. I either shoot outdoors with a solid backstop or indoors with a target I made. FYI, the sound of the arrow hitting the target is much, much louder than the bow. If I'm indoors some music at moderate volume will make it very very hard to even distinguish.

You need to be very careful and keep the locals happy, the police as well if possible.

I had a feeling that it would be found... How exactly did they find it again?

I find it an entertaining irony that one of the members most concerned with following the law to the letter ended up in the rare circumstance of having a launcher stolen by the police.

Demon, how many of us in the chatroom that night told you that the true key to retaining your possessions and (relative) liberty is to not be noticed? I distinctly remember informing you that if they came to your property as a result of your launcher being reported it would be considered illegal regardless of its actual performance.

Now you're in a similar situation to me - you can hardly sneeze without being eyed suspiciously, and for a launcher that hardly qualifies as a pea-shooter. I had much more fun earning my trouble

If they are like police here, the knock and ask. If refused, they get a search order. In most cases it is best to hand it to them at the door instead of inviting them in.

They confiscated your gun and fined you $200....and you say they were on "your side" . Exactly how does that reconcile?

Must be some awfully nice police around where you live to bother with the "knock and ask" option. Around here, they tend to skip that one and go straight to the "ambush you when you leave the house" option

Well here where i live possession of an illegal weapon is a felony. And they could easily put you in jail. Not to mention they could have confiscated the rest of his building materials and ammo. It sux as far as what they did but it could have definately been worse.
