my question is simple as that, who came up with the piston valve ? or what is the first provable use of a piston valve on a potato gun? I'm just curious, that's all.
Persistence is a measure of faith in yourself
I do not know who invented the piston valve
However, I would infer that the creator got his idea from diaphragm valves (such as sprinkler valves and QEVs) as well as from solenoid piston valves (Asco makes some angled body ones)
Whoever it was, I would really like to shake his (or her) hand

DING DING DING - Atlantis got it. The 1st piston valve was built into the steam engine, was designed like a 2 stroke, ported cylinder walls that way the piston acts as the valve. If i'm not mistaken there was a smaller piston hooked into a counter shaft placed on the same drive/fly wheel to devert the pressure for the return stroke. I think thats how it got it's start.
