High voltage testing at school:

it's and old German "ölprüfgerät". Draws nice arcs up to 10 cm
I was thinking of using it as an ignition, but the things is completely made out of cast iron, so it weighs about 30 kgs.

TRIBAL WISDOM
The tribal wisdom of the Lakota Indians, passed on from generation to generation, says: "When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.”
However, in government, education, and in corporate America, more advanced strategies are often employed, such as:
1. Buying a stronger whip.
2. Changing riders.
3. Appointing a committee to study the dead horse.
4. Arranging to visit other countries to see how other cultures ride dead horses.
5. Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included.
6. Reclassifying the dead horse as living-impaired.
7. Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse.
8. Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed.
9. Providing additional funding and/or training to increase dead horse's performance.
10. Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riders would improve the dead horse's performance.
11. Declaring that as the dead horse does not have to be fed, costs less, has lower overhead and therefore contributes substantially more to the bottom line of the economy than do other horses.
12. Rewriting the expected performance requirements for all horses.
And of course....
13. Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position and raising its salary and benefits.

*Disclaimer* - I may be wrong here but this is the impression I have formed from political discussions on these forums, reading a few blogs and a few other things.
It's surprising how important politics are in the U.S., it appears voting one way or the other is a significant decision in your life. With the two major parties in NZ being very close to each other (centre right and centre left), no one really worries about politics at all. It's not like it's the end of the world if the other party gets in, just means that the education sector might see a 3% pay rise instead of the police force.
The only time people complain is when the government buggers something up but it's not like the whole country goes in to an anti-government, anti-capitalism, anti-wealthy crusade, people just have a b|tch for 5 minutes to have their opinions heard and then carry on with important things in life.

Nope, you don't have the wrong impression. Typically the right-wing party in the USA is a bit more radical than the left-wing, but with the rise of the tea party, right-wing politics has turned to idiocy.
People have to complain all the time here because it seems like there aren't any politicians that are centrist. We should try importing some.

That is unconstitutional (for the President, anyway)saefroch wrote: We should try importing some.
Personally, I think the left is equally, if not more extreme, but I am biased. Some people are striking in Cleveland about the greed of wall street and bank, and claim what they're doing is "more important than earning money to pay banks what we don't owe them"
I agree that corporate America and banks are taking advantage, but I don't' see how protesting will change that.

Unfortunately, our country is over-run with freeloaders that feel higher education, health care, house, etc., etc., is their birth right and should be paid for by someone else......the people that work, produce and pay taxes.
[EDIT] Many of the "99%" protestors are people just like him.
Read this guys sad tale:

- I have never been appreciated, in retail, for any potential other than selling other people crap, half of which they do not need, and most of which they probably cannot really afford. I hate being used like that, I want a useful job.

I can understand when other (although to be fair, much smaller) countries manage to have decent schooling and healthcare. Healthcare is fairly decent here and our education is up there so I can't complain too much. Other countries have taxes as high as 50% and get great healthcare and decent education while other countries only allow people to become teachers if they have Masters degrees which correlates to their top 3 education rankings over literacy, maths and science.velocity3x wrote:Unfortunately, our country is over-run with freeloaders that feel higher education, health care, house, etc., etc., is their birth right and should be paid for by someone else......the people that work, produce and pay taxes.
I'd be pretty angry if I had to pay 50% taxes even if education and schooling was decent but then again people probably get used to it and their economies and salaries are probably quite fair.
Germany does pretty well by segregating students in to three different schooling systems but I personally believe they make this decision much too early. By the age of 11 or so your future is pretty much decided, you'll either go to a gymnasium and end up at university doing a decent degree or you'll end up at the other two schools and become an apprentice. They don't waste money on trying to catch up the students who fall behind and are able to teach harder courses to kids in gymnasiums. I wouldn't want a system like this for my kids personally, though.
I guess with America you guys are too big and too diverse with the two big parties seemingly unable to agree on the biggest decisions whereas in smaller countries, the main two parties generally have differences over smaller matters.
I'm not going to pretend like I have a clue about U.S. politices, education or healthcare and I'm neither supporting a left wing or right wing (I'm partially biased because I could never vote Republican due to their policies on religion) approach, just though I'd ramble on about some sh|t in case someone gets a kick out of it
N.B. Most of what I wrote is from recollection, I always confuse which countries have what education and healthcare policies but I believe the above statements are made about countries such as the Netherlands and Scandinavian (Finland, Sweden, Norway) countries.

isn't that an accurate description of today's economy?I have never been appreciated, in retail, for any potential other than selling other people crap, half of which they do not need, and most of which they probably cannot really afford. I hate being used like that, I want a useful job.
I am the 99 percent.
services constitute around 75% of your GDP
And that basically translates into -> you can get a low paid job in a call centre or something like that
(until your company offshores everything to india)

My guess is that the function of sales personnel is to sell to people. The customers will decide if it's crap.I have never been appreciated, in retail, for any potential other than selling other people crap....
half of which they do not need.....
I think the customer is better equipped to make that decision.
He is employed as a sales person, not the customer's personal financial consultant.and most of which they probably cannot really afford.
He's not being USED...he is free to quit anytimeI hate being used like that,
He can't even handle the sales job. IMO, he's a douche bag!I want a useful job.
NO...he is not!I am the 99 percent.
With his worth ethic. he will never amount to anything. Not because of the system, but because of his own attitude. IMO, he's the typical turd floating in the labor pool, but wants to be recognized as being special. I too would consider sending everything to India if he was the only kind of labor available. If he wants to protest, he should leave Wall Street and protest at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue....that's where most of the problems originate!
I was wondering why my dad was coming home later then usual today, and then he came in and said, i couldnt remeber the combo for the gun safe, can you go check it, i was like sure,

Didn't know postage scales could do that, or do you keep separate scales for teenagers and the high-rollers?Hotiwred wrote:I've got to work in grams and ounces at work. Sometimes with the same customer
