I have a short question of my own:
Is there a reasonable way to exceed the performance of the following cannon scheme without going hybrid?
Barrel limited to 4-6" long
1. Fill chamber completely with liquid nitrogen (no gas space)
2. Seal chamber
3. Allow LN2 to "evaporate" into supercricical fluid
4. Dump with balanced hammer valve.
This would theoretically give me about 700 bar (expansion ratio of LN2 is ~1:700. Liquid Helium, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Neon are higher, but more expensive or reactive.
