Just buy some cheaper digital ones, probably won't even set you back $20. You can spend thousands on measuring equipment but a cheap pair of calipers will do just fine

I've been using a pair of $20 Aldi digital calipers, and I've used some nice calipers too. You wouldn't pick the difference in accuracy.
Also, a sharpened nail punch would be a lot of fun, I've used a tempered concrete fixing nail to great effect. A rat tail file could be good too, they're bloody hard.

Here's an easy slug you (or your mechanic

) can make for a 3/4" barrel, all you need is a used CO2 capsule, chop it up and fill it up to about 25% from the bottom with something heavy.

I get phone books all the time sent to my house. I start collecting them now and build some sort of chamber type deal to hold them in place... A lot cheaper then buying a backstop box..

I'd go with that honestly. I know that pre-made targets are quite expensive. I know that old carpeting also works for stopping projectiles. before I could afford archery targets that's what I would use to stop my arrows.

With intimidating APFSDS projectils to hand, you will find that list will shrink considerably, unless of course you don't use an adequate backstop and the list fills up with
"patch the holes in the garage" type items

What's this? Has JSR finally found someone new to pick on about inadequate backstops? Surely not!

No no no, twas a temporary deferral based on chronological deficiency, I was looking for your "incident" but was pressed for time and MrC's misadventure was the first instance to come up in a search for "garage backstop"

Fnord, that is brilliant.
