This thread kind of turned in to a haven for Hybridists; I'm not complaining either :D

Definitely, you only get one chance at this :)

By the way, how about some shotgun sabots? It would be nice to see some more buckshot rounds... but for science this time :D

define exactly what it will shot, but the mix40 necessarily target material (profile?), camera angles ...
I will change the brake discs in my car, they are very thick and heavy, they could also serve as a target ...

Only one way to find out :D

By the way, do you have access to smaller ball bearings than 8mm? Maybe 4.5mm bearings from BB guns?

Oh and look what I found!

Ready pointed tungsten cores!

edit: you can get "bullet" shapes as well: http://cgi.ebay.fr/1-4-oz-Zappu-Tungste ... 1c08ba7a3f

6mm is good, I'll make you some decent cup sabots too :)

I just bought some of these:

They weigh 1.8 grams, so considering the density of tungsten and the dimensions from the picture I would say they are about 2.5mm diameter and 18.5mm long, quite tiny compared to what you've been using.

Eh?

I will make "cup" sabots so you can shoot multiple steel balls, proper buckshot style ;)

This one?

I've seen references to 18.2 g/cm3 density. so that gives dimensions of about 2.6mm diameter and 28mm length, certainly these would not be as effective as the rods you're currently using - though technically they would fly out much faster.

As we've seen however, it's better to rely on slightly less velocity and more mass in order to avoid the projectile shattering.

On another note, have you ever heard of the "Blondeau" slug (balle Blondeau)?

The tail is not hollow, but apparently due to the shape it flies reasonably straight...
