I have experimented with using the phone as GSM shield - it can send/receive text messages and make a phone call ( very useful if you want receive text messages with sensor readings )

I am surprised that nichrome wire works so well with just a wimpy 9V battery - they don't really provide a lot of current. I wonder how well would it work with a combustion or hybrid.

Hot wire ignition worked well enough for my tennis ball combustion:

Never worked for a hybrid though, the hypothesis is that too much heat is lost in a pressurised environment.

Neighbor was throwing a little printer out so I figured I'd take it apart and get those steel rods that I always hear about... Turns out there's so much more in these things than I thought.



Tons of springs- 7 extensions and 12 compression springs
Steel rods- 7.9mm (.31") x 15.5", 7.9mm x 12", and 5.94mm x 9" I think
Tons of plastic bits
16 plastic gears and a belt
3 different sized DC motors with good wire connections and gears
Smaller metal rods and other metal bits
Miniature screws
9.5 x 13.5 inch glass sheet (it was a scanner too)

Nice, this is why anything mechanical should be raided for parts/target material before disposal

Considering that the scrounged parts will be eventually used to encourage the high velocity distribution of lead, the net environmental effect is still negative

Once a year here the council runs an 'inorganic' rubbish collection. This is better than christmas ever was, atleast to me.

Im not sure if other places in the world have this, but anyone can put out on the road a huge pile of 'rubbish'. It is as if people empty the contents of their house and garage/shed such is the range of stuff you can get.

You class objects as either being,

or

Its normally a rush to get anything useful out of it though, with people cruising around in trucks specifically to pick all the valuable parts out.

hehe, after about 15 hours my damascus blade looks pretty good already. Sanded it to 180 grit and saltwater etched it to get some idea of the pattern, i'm pretty pleased with the result. Pattern isnt very visible yet as the blade is not fully polished and not heat treated, but still you get some idea. Theoretical layer count is 248, propably lost some of it ehile sanding.
