How can I drill a deep hole using a lathe? Per example I'm trying to drill a 15mm Dia hole on a soon to be receiver block for barrel/bolt but my drill bit isn't long enough... If I take it out from the 4 jaw chuck and switch sides I'm worried about the lineament (difficult to use a dial indicator on a square freature)

How deep do you need to drill? Centering a square block is really kinda easy, takes a little getting used to doing.

15cm max. Well... I know it's possible I just don't want to take it out and put it back specially the hole isn't in the center so I'm not looking for a way to center the block...
Thanks anyway.

I put the dail gauge in the hole and center that way if I'm drilling with my tail stock. You can buy jobber bits that are longer then regular drill bits but they ain't cheap. Search Ebay...

Be brave grasshopper! Measure where the hole is flip the piece over make your mark from the measurements you took and drill a small hole then re-check your hole location, go from there...you can do it. I have faith in your machine talents!

Tried it, I mean I've done these drilling but I thought there would be a more precise option (ruler+marker is no longer good enough after 0.1mm). I mean how are commercial airgun receivers made?
BTW just thought an option using a milling attachment for the lathe tool post to hold the block and 3 jaw chuck to hold the drill bit.
Thanks!

drill a half inch hole both sides, then complete with a boring bar.

 If I don't have a 200mm drill bit how can I have a boring bar long enough to bore a 150mm hole?

Sure thing, once you see a fresh new PCP from me
Need time... And money. The milling attachment cost 200 euros...

I have a 7 inch boring bar, with a removable carbide head, I think it was some $45 off eBay.
