New site looks great! Come a long ways since the SpudTech era!!
At any rate, playing around with a piston build for the first time in a decade. I've used the basic air compressor blow gun plenty of times in the past, but they just feel like they are made of $1 worth of chinese steel (odd, right?). I accept that a valve will never feel as nice as a sear based system, but hopefully there's something a little more precision? Doesn't need to be very big... GGDT is still showing plenty of flow with a 0.15" dia exhaust. (the design has an assist piston, so I only need to introduce a 15psi pressure difference between chamber and pilot, and the main exhaust will dump out the side).
If the options are all rather expensive, I will just stick to the blowgun for this test bed.
Exhaust value with decent trigger feel

lift off valve, sear release:)
Trigger feel as you design the trigger-sear geometry
Also saves on a blow gun ( I am extremely cheap)

Why not take a trigger and hammer mechanism from something basic and cheap like a Crosman 2240 or a paintball marker, and use that to knock the valve open?
One thing to keep in mind is that the piston becomes a projectile in its own right so a way of stopping it safely needs to be taken into account.
Also a good option and simpler to implement than my previous suggestion, it is basically the principle behind the Crosman 1400: https://spudfiles.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=26868
