Melting/Flattening PVC

Ok I know that people have flattened pvc in their ovens before but I dont want to catch my house on fire. What temperature should it be flattended at? How long should I keep it in the oven? When it is flattened and cooled will it become brittle? Will the pipe flatten on its own or do I have to put weight on it? As you can see I have lots o' questions but if you have any info on this feel free to help. And if you dont help I'll eat your family and friends.

I think you can use a blow torch too and flatten it on a smooth surface.

I've never done this because I can buy sheet PVC ( ) but I would put it between two pieces of sheet metal and then put it in the oven or use the blowtorch. You'd get it really smooth, plus you could keep using the sheet metal, it's not like it's going to melt.

Oh my mom threw away some teflon coated cookie sheets and I'll go get them out of the garbage. I am going to try this on a small scale and tell you how it works. You so lucky that you can get sheet pvc. You should make a stock for you paintball gun with it. Thats why I need to flatten this stuff.

I tried to bend the pvc iusing a blow torch and teh pipe only burned.

I just tried it and it burned a little but I got it kinda flat I'm gonna try to flatten it a little more later.

Im going to put it in the oven with weight on top of it at 200 degrees and see what happens. I'll keep the fire extinguisher handy though.

I modified a fitting by putting it in the oven, I took it out once i started to see the fitting deform.

I Expanded 20mm pipe over 15mm pipe using a heat gun for 10seconds, it may sound like the 20mm will slide over it normally but there is no way of getting it over without expanding it, the pipe goes really soft really fast so just chuck some weights on it to flatten it.

What temp did you do it at? I dont want to start a fire. I'll post what happened tomorow.

I used a black and decker heat gun on level 2(the highest level) it would be equivilent if not hotter then a gas heater, after 10sec it went floppy and expanded enough to sleeve 15mm pipe and after 10sec it was solid,I might try and make some sheet pvc that way today, Ill cut it lopen heat it up and put a brick on top and see what happens.

I also tried using a torch but you have to really move the flame fast to keep from burning the pipe. I ended up using my heat gut... that I forgot I had
oh- I have some fat friends... could make for some good eat'in, and because they are so damn lazy, the meat should be tender

are you trying to flatten pipe?

use a pot full of cooking oil, you dont want it too hot, probably around 300-350 F, or medium high heat

Or get them to sit on it That'll it make the pipe go flat

I flaten PVC at 350 degrees for exactly 5 minutes.
