Crowley, actually, sprinkler valves are barrel sealing, unless you put it on backwards, in which case it won't work. Just take apart a sprinkler valve and look at the insides.

Joanna and D_Hall(who made GGDT) claim they are chamber sealers and I have full confidence in both of them.

Nice gun, nice paint, haven’t read the whole thread, just the first page, but anyway, you should drill a 3/4” hole in the barrel as close to the valve as possible and ream out a coupler and slide it over the hole, that way you have a cheap, simple, and effective breach loader. Oh and, finally somebody who knows the difference between a smooth bore and a rifle! I’m going to finish reading the thread now.
Yeah I’m a little slow at posting…

Well I’ve skimmed over all the pages, got the just of the argument, laughed my head off at joannaardway’s comment on winning an argument (now I know why I lost in my argument about the AR15/.223 round…), but I would like to make a comment on the argument (better late than never), all I know is that a .50-70 (an old black powder buffalo round that used a .50 caliber bullet with 70 grains of powder.) will shoot farther than a .45-70 (another buffalo round that, for some odd reason is still used to day, which uses a .45cal bullet propelled by 70 grains of powder.) the .50-70 holds it’s kinetic energy a lot longer than the .45-70 due to the .50call bullet being significantly heaver than the .45call.
Plus the larger the diameter of your barrel, back to air cannons, the greater the flow coefficient. But since the larger bore usually uses a heaver round the increase in muzzle velocity is not noticed. Now if what I said isn’t true, yell at me and tell me way, I came up with this theory my self, although I’m sure it’s been thought of before.

Oh and MrCrowly, yes I’m still on the smoothbore thing, you got a problem with that punk!?!

No, Not really...jsut a bit odd..thats all.

Oh and spudblaster for the breech its easier to make a turning coupler that covers the whole then one that slides back,I tried both and prefured the first way.

Well I was very fortunate, I had a 1/2" pvc spigot type thing, Hard to explain, it had 1/2" threads on both ends and the I.D fits perfectly to sleeve over 3/4" pipe, On the threaded ends I had two threaded caps for it,only thing is they had 3/4" holes in them as well...Perfect! So that was my coupler and for some reason it came with 2 thick o-rings which seal and tighten when you tighten the caps, So I made it really tight over the hole and it turns fine but wont move up or down b/c the O-rings create to much friction. So it was perfect for the job, You'll see it on my new PB gun(Brugar engineering were closed today and I couldnt pick up the welded fire extinguisher tanks :( )

If you want pics I can post some later.

Maybe not all sprinkler valves are barrel sealers, but it is a fact that Orbit Watermasters are barrel sealers. A chamber sealing sprinkler wouldn't have an equilization hole one the side of the diaphragm, not next to the seat. I'm not going to get stuck on this.

Many, if not most, sprinkler valves have an equilisation hole in the centre of the seat - if it were a barrel sealer that simply wouldn't work - any that have that have to be chamber sealers.

Some may be barrel sealers - I'm by no means the definitive expert.

MrCrowley - Paintballs slow down very fast at high speeds. The cannon I mentioned before may fire them at nearly 900 fps, but within 5 metres of the muzzle, it's down to about 820-830 due to drag.

So you may be getting high muzzle velocities - it just may not be instantly apparent.

...I'm sorry, but that made my year.

It doesn't actually matter much to me - I have little intent to use a sprinkler valve.

I'm just providing the best information I have access to.
