Confused on how to build one

Sorry to be annoying, and before anyone starts telling me to read up on how to make one, i want to tell those people that i already did

i want to make a cannon with the following dimensions,

pressure chamber - diameter 70 mm
lenght 15 - 20 cm

barrel - diameter 30 - 35 mm
lenght 70- 100 cm


what I'm confused about is how to put the two together, make my valve (i want to use a sprinkler valve) install the pressure gauge and install the attachment so i can pump air into the pressure chamber


if anyone can tell me how to properly manufacture one from by a step by step process

i just need to know how to make one, after that i should be fine

please help, i really want to make one

Well you can buy the parts but at your local hardware store you be finding a 7 inch diameter PVC pipe, and for attaching the two look for some reducing bushings those are easy to find. Also you want to use a modded sprinkler valve well in the how to section there is a guide to modding one in the how to section.

You need to draw it out. Do not try to conceptualize it. It doesn't sound like that route is working for you. Start with drawing your chamber, barrel and sprinkler valves. Make sure you either label the diameters, or draw the various diameters to scale (length at this point is not necessary to draw to scale). Now, it should be fairly clear as to which fittings you need to match each component to the other. If you still have concerns about the safety of your conceptualized->drafted design, ask us about that.
Two suggestion: do not use reducers, use bushings. Use female/male fittings in place of couplings where you may want to change things in the future.

what are female/male fittings, i looked them up on google, and the spud handbook, but im not clear about what they are or how they are used, also what im confused about is if for example i wanna make a penumatic cannon that shoots marbles, wouldnt the marbles roll out if the cannon is angle poining towards the ground?

Go to your hardware store, look in any pipe section: pvc, cpvc, black iron, galvanized, copper, etc. You need to SEE these to properly understand them, it would seem. ...no disrespect meant.
Basically, instead of solvent welding two sections together with a smooth coupling, you have two fittings that are both threaded and screw together. Hence, male and female. Don't be ashamed of it, it is how you came to be. For more info on this topic, google it on your home computer, not at school or work.
One of the nice things about using threaded fittings is that they are not permanetly attached and can thus be screwed into other threaded fittings. Please when making your spud guns NEVER use two males or two females, it is sick and pointless. Whenever you use one, you must use it's mate. Using one without the other serves no real purpose and no real pleasure, thus you have no net gain.

i completely agree with willarddaniels if you draw it and go to your hardware store and i still doesnt quite make sense ask someone there sometimes they know what there talking about other times theyll say spud gun sorry we dont sell those.....but if you still dont understand post the drawing on here and im sure that somebody including myself would be more than willing to help a noob do it right the first time

dud you don't really seem to have any basic knowledge of pipes/pluming. I suggest you go to some hardward store and just look aroung for like and hour and ask a crap load of questions.

thats pretty much what i suggeted but i meantioned that not everyone there knows what there talking about find a kid who looks like he builds potatoe guns or an old guy (they tend to have a lot of expierience with everything)

A list of parts, going by your diagram, starting at the end cap:
60 mm end cap
60 mm pipe
60 mm coupler
60 mm x 35 mm bushing
35 mm elbow
35 mm elbow
35 mm pipe
35 mm male threads
35 mm sprinkler valve
35 mm male threads
35 mm barrel

And to answer your questions:
You install a pressure guage by getting a pressure guage, drilling a hole the same size as the threads, buying a thread tap, tapping the hole, and screwing in the guage.
You put the fill valve in the same way as the pressure guage.
You stop ammo from falling out by putting some paper towel or toilet paper, or something else in front of it.

you could go to your hardware store buy all that stuff but i dont understand millimeters or anything i no how to convert it but i dont feel like it but you might have to use inches instead of mm if you cant find any

100% agree with everyone else saying "Go to a hardware store"

trust me, you'll learn a lot. Male fittings go INTO female fitting and can be screwed in or out. (kinda understand the method behind naming them 'male' and 'female' yet?)

Read what things are and get a visual. I made a gun very similar to what you want a few months ago (it was my first pneumatic):



Only difference is basically the valve.

no he diddnt use a sprinkler valve as you can see....its a basic ball valve....look clsoely at the pics and i agree with frank there are *TONS* of plans out there you can find them on the wiki or just on the sight frank said
