First time cannoner *Update BIG BOOM!!
becuase of the fact that your entire pond is forzen over, im assuming that it ussually below freeszing where you live during the winter... if this is the case... you should not be firing your spud cannon if it is that cold... when it becomes cold, pvc becomes extremley brittle and can explode on you so please be careful when firing. Other than that it sounds amazing... that is quite a bit of power... being able to send a 3pound projectile 200yards (if it was still on the up part of its trajectory when it hit the tree)

Are you sure it was a 3 lb chunk of ice? A quick calculation tells me it'd have to be about 15" long to weigh that much.
And Caotic, you are forgeting about the drag - which will cause the tratractory to be unsymetrical.

boiling, you underestimate me...i did not "forget about drag" ... remember he said that
now if he had said that it was perfectly leveled out then it would have gone ~200 yards... however... it was still oinb the upwards trajectory so it most likely would have even gone more than 200 yards... also, unless he measured the distance from his launcher to the tree, i assume that he is not exactly 100 yards from the tree and i estimate his margin of error in his measurment to be plus or minus 10 to 15 yards...now that would give my calculation an accuracy oif plus or minus 20 to 30 yards... now wind is not going to have enough of an effect to blow the chucnk of ice more than maybe half a yard.... let alone 20-30.. so next time think about how accurate the given information is before you assualt a man who has all the time in the world to defend his name and to prove that he is not in error... oh and lastly, if your gonna call me something... amke it one of the following: K40T1C, Kaotic, Chaotic, but come on it's not "caotic".. its spelt chaotic...A little mapp gas and Blam!!! That 3 pound chunk of ice rocketed about 100 yards. It was still in its upward path when it hit a tree.

Haha. Wow, I can tell the kiddies from the real men in this forum. Don't get me wrong. I don't want to insult moderators or anything, but wow, jumping down my throat for a distance, maybe there is something more productive you could be doing...
Thanks K40T1C, I Couldn't measure the distance because I would have killed myself in the process. So what if it was 15 yards off, that is still a long distance to lob ice, and that is all I care about.

Yeah, sorry about that, k40t1c... I geuss I have to deal with too many retarded newbs, and have gotten into the habit of assuming everyone is one.
Anyway, I'v acctualy bothered to run the numbers:
Using velocities generated from EVBEC (for a 4" thick ice chunk), and the GGDT's external ballistics calculator: if it levels out at 100yards, it'll go 530 feet, and the furthest you can get it to go is 630 feet.
The max range for a 3lb chunk of ice is about 450 feet, for which tratractory it peaks at about 230. (keep in mind that this is getting very far from the sectional densities used in the latke tests)

What, are you and kaotic the same person? And I was hardly yelling at anyone - I was mearly pointing out that (I thought) he had forgotten to take drag into account when predicting the distance.

If you make questionable claims, expect people to question them. Chiseling out a >15" chunk of ice would be difficult, and most people arn't terribly accurate at estimating mass, so...
(incidentaly, it'd be easier to use a peice of scrap 3" pipe as a mold to freeze your ammo in - although some people have issues with their ammo cracking when doing this, it's avoidable by using pycrete or adding some salt to the water.)
And kaotic, if you are going to complain about spelling, you better use paragraphs.
...and stop double posting. There are both an edit button and a deleate button available to you, and I'm getting tired of cleaning up after you.
